DOW-UAP-D087, U.S. Air Force Analysis of Flying Objects in the United States, 1-100

▮ AI SYNOPSIS · Sonnet 4.6

DOW-UAP-D087 is a U.S. Army Air Forces compilation of incident summaries for unidentified flying objects, covering cases numbered roughly 1 through 100. The document is dated primarily from July 1947, forwarded under a February 1950 cover routing, and originates from AAFOR-CD at Wright Field, Dayton. It consists of standardized "Check-List — Unidentified Flying Objects" forms, incident summary sheets, and witness statements. Incidents are concentrated around Muroc Army Air Field, California (July 8, 1947) and Portland/Vancouver, Oregon (July 4, 1947). Observers include military officers, test pilots, police officers, sheriff's deputies, civilian employees, and airline crew. Reported objects were described as silver or white discs or spheres, traveling at high speed, performing tight circles or abrupt directional changes, with no audible propulsion and no exhaust trails.

The document is notable as one of the earliest systematic U.S. military efforts to collect and standardize UAP witness reports, predating Project Sign. The Muroc incidents are significant because multiple trained military observers, including a test pilot running up an XP-84 and a flight test officer at a seat-ejection experiment, reported objects independently and within hours of each other. Several evaluations are marked "confirmed by other sources." The OCR quality is poor throughout, degrading legibility of remarks sections, and many checklist fields are marked "N/S" (not stated), leaving speed, altitude, and construction data incomplete for numerous incidents. Newspaper clippings appear to be included among the pages, suggesting the compiler drew on open-source reporting alongside official statements.

Includes a "Check-List - Unidentified Flying Objects" that contains details about the incident. Many summaries also include witness lists or statements and other narrative reports or descriptions.

Jeseph Buvolo and S/Sgt. Gerald 3, Maunan to the froat of the 8.0.Q, *A" Blog- Pointing up in a direction diructly above the group he anted them to explaia vhat they saw. Witnese states that she saw 2 ailver-colored diao-11le objects flying toward lojave, Golia, one directly buck of the other, at a meed of bout 300 te 400 MPH at an altitude of approxinstely 8,000 ft. She listened carefully for a few minutes but could bear no drone such as occasioned by say edreroft. Gesting her eyes for a moment in naother direction and them loeiing bask to the same spot abe vas able to distinguish the seme objecte agaia. Assured that it was not eye-strain, she ves courinced the objecta vere not nather ballons due to the horisontal position in wich they traveled. Bor coald they have been birds dince they refleeted the sun'e rays. Some three or four mimes after the objects had neerly disappeared she saw another flying object similar to the above zentioned objects. It was silver colored and diso-like in shape. Unlike the firet two, it flew in a tight circle, neither losing nor nining altitade, at sporoximately 8,000 ft. She thought it performed too tight a circle to have been any type airereft with which she was failiar. valuation: Confirmed by other sources

On the everdng of June 12 about 6115, a neighbor and I returning home fron another neighbors, glanced into the aky towed the fest, and saw what we thought waa anoke fros an airplane, She mentioned that she had never seen that before, Bo we stopped to look and liaten, thinking we would see the plane, But there was no soundy ao we kupt looking until we ear a tiny object fran which the vapor was nitting. It was so far amy we could not determine the wise or aven the shape, Ita only identity was a liston in the sun. We had watched thia one for a few seconds, when fron the general, direction of the sun, another object shot into the sig• It followed the general direction of the first, shooting up and do before settling to a south-easterly course across the sid, where we followed then until they were only a gilstan and the vapor could no longer be seen, After the objecte were gone, we contired to look and to watch the vapor that had been left wiich now looked like clouds but kept a siape, and thie shape seaned to glide across the aly to the lat where there a a black streak leadine to the horizon. The vapor stayed in the sky for over an hour.

During toeir lunch period (1215-1315) 19 Mey 1947 a member of & train crew called attention to a silver object in the sky approseling from the Northeast. It appeared to be traveling at great speed. The object appeared extremely smell and therefore the altitude could not be estinated. It did apper higher than the top of Menitou Mountain which le some 1,000 feet higher than the city. No definite shape could be deteruined even with the aid of vower binoculars. The men were certsin that the object was not a conventionel aircraft since it did not nave any of the physical charecteristies Upon re ching the area just north of Menitou the object remeined in the erea for several minutes during which time it executed meneuvers such us clinbing, diving and reversal of flight. Thie hamened every few seconds. The distance and location between views prompted two of the men to think that there may have been nore of the objecte in the sky. At time it seemed to hoever and then it sould start on another flight path. when lost secr the silver object was climbing very fist tovards the west almost directly into the wind. Incident: #98 Incident occurred just before break of day: Object appeared to Mrs Brimberry as a large round ball of fire about 26 to 30 inches in diameter with a "tail" of approximately 20 feet in length. This "tail" seemed to diminish as it approached the ground. It appeared to have suddenly "gone out" just before it reached the earth. It possibly could have hit the ground a great distance away but it seemed to have landed in the open vacant field adjacent the house. This field is about 18 acres in area. Mr Brimberry descrübed the object as being "almost round, maybe a little oval or saucer-shaped and giving off a bright light. It appeared to be spinning. He did not see the tail when he öbserved the object. Incident occurred just before sun-up and it was pretty light outside. 5 - 183 & 0
